I finally found the reason why I don't seem to accomplish anything on any given day!
AAADD
KNOW THE SYMPTOMS.....PLEASE READ!
Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.
Somehow I feel better, even though I have it!!
Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back
on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think,
since I'm going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table,
and see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Pepsi aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Pepsi is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye-- they need water.
I put the Pepsi on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was plannning to do.
At the end of the day:
the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid
there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem,
and I'll try to get some help for it,
but first I'll check my e-mail....

Monkey See, Monkey Do
I was in the midst of cleaning and I had to stop and post this. Ever since I was pregnant with Kaley, I always wondered how having a child would fit in with the dynamics of having a dog who was already part of our family. I wondered if they would get along and whether Baracus would accept this new addition or not. Well...I must say it has gone so much better than I would have thought. They are two peas in a pod. Baracus has taken on the role of "big brother" whether he wants to or not, and Kaley being the devoted "little sister" is always on his tail wanting to be where he is. Today was no exception. I was in the guest room making the bed for my parents to come tomorrow and we were playing around, so Baracus hops off the bed and crawls underneath the bed like he always does (and inevitably gets stuck and starts whining for someone to get him.) And this is what Kaley did...
And then seeing where he went...
And then they both got stuck! It is never a dull moment with these two, and we wouldn't want it any other way:)

Women's Retreat 2009
This weekend I attended the women's retreat that is put on each year by our Nazarene district. It is a great opportunity to spend some time with friends and even create new bonds of friendship. This year proved to be this and even more! We had an excellent speaker who presented the story of the woman at the well through drama and music. The theme of the weekend was "Living Water" and how everything you need in life can be found through a relationship with Christ. It was inspiring and thought provoking and has led to some questions in my own heart and mind about my life and what God desires for me. My life is not my own and my greatest desire is to be not only the wife, mom, friend and person that God desires, but a vessel through which which incredible love and mercy can flow through. Yet, the struggle comes in when the daily things of life and ministry vie for my attention, time and energy. It is not a matter of choosing between good and bad, if only it could be that easy! Mark always says that rather than managing your time, you need to manage your energy, which is so true. So, this week for me will be a time of prayer, meditation and quiet time spent "in my deep place where nobody goes" where I sort through these questions and seek guidance and direction.
I also bought a few books this weekend! How could you not when they have this fabulous book store just waiting for you to snatch them up? One of my all time favourite books when I was growing up were the Berenstein Bears! I believe I have read almost all of them and now am reading them to Kaley. At the bookstore, they had a Christian series of Berenstein Bears books!!! I was so excited. So, I decided to buy them for Kaley as a present. I can't wait to read them to her!

I also bought a health book to help me get back to a more healthy lifestyle. I *know* how to be healthy and what I need to do to get to that place, yet I just have to choose to make it a priority over being lazy and a habit that becomes second nature.

I love the refocusing and redirection that a retreat can offer. What a gift!

10 Daily Habits List
An excerpt from Dr. Paul on the GraceConnexion website:
"Change your habits, change your life! We all know that it is the little habits that powerfully impact our life - for good or not so good. Some habits are life-giving and some are life-taking. Changing them is an inside job.
I have not found any amount of "should, ought to, must, have to" energy that has been enough to change my habits over a sustained period of time. I'll bet it's the same with you. Doctors can tell us, parents and spouses can nag us, we can use God to guilt us, even children can beg us to add or drop a habit and it's rarely successful. What is missing is the "want to."
Negative energy has to come from outside us and there is a cost - guilt, shame, pressure, fear, anger. Ever know anyone who seemed to need to be angry to get something done? How often do we use the pressure of some deadline and the adrenaline-rush to accomplish something "just in time?" But what is the cost to us and to others in our life affected by our need for negative energy? The most frequent emotional payback we get from doing something because we "have-to, ought-to, must do" is relief that it's over and we don't have to do it again for some time period. "Thank God that's done. I don't have to do that until next _______."
Positive energy comes from finding the "want to" in the tasks we choose and the habits we create or drop. The energy comes from the process itself and does not need an outside source. The emotional payback in usually a sense of healthy pride and accomplishment. In fact, we find ourselves saying, " I look forward to doing that again."
A 10 Daily Habits List is a tool I use and recommend to the people I coach. I confess that my pattern in actually using it has been inconsistent. What I know is that whenever I am not using the 10 Daily Habits List my life is less fulfilling, more pressured and chaotic.
It is not rocket science but it is a helpful tool. Simply make a list of 10 Behaviors or Choices that would improve the quality of your life and begin to practice them. These are not the 10 Daily Habits someone else wishes you would develop! This is not an "OUGHT TO DO" LIST but a WANT TO LIST! Remember the BT 1 exercise "What do you want?"
They don't have to be huge changes to make a significant difference. Start with what may seem small things (floss daily, make bed daily, drink more water daily, walk daily, etc.) that you want to develop into routine actions that happen almost automatically. Do them for at least 30 days and when they become routine add another one.
What is on your 10 Daily Habits list? You can add a 10 Daily Habits list for a specific area of your life: work, relationships, spirituality, etc. What would yours be?" Dr.Paul Fitzgerald
